Each year at my birthday I review the previous year, celebrate my accomplishments, and set goals for the coming year. (Here’s my post from last year.) Sometimes I adjust those goals a bit at the witches’ new year (Samhain). Over the years I’ve learned to set fewer and smaller goals to allow for new opportunities to come to me.
I’m still grieving the loss of my father, and it’s colored so much of my life. Perhaps I would be more accurate to say that its removed the color from my life in odd and unexpected ways. I absolutely plunged myself into buying an apartment as a form of grief therapy. My sudden need for new roots starting the month after Dad died was clear, even at the time. A major private upset in September further disrupted me through Autumn, and it’s effects have only recently come through into healing.
It was a very rough year, as my annual tarot reading warned me it would be.
What I accomplished from my goal list:
- Improve my sleep quality, overall, and I am now — for the first time since 2010 — regularly sleeping 7+ hours each night.
- Pass the Portuguese language course.
I also:
- Lost 20kg (44lbs for non-EU readers)
- Bought our “forever” apartment
- Started writing the next book, a collaborative effort I’m quite excited about
- Supported JaguarMoon through a new leadership process
- Decided what my social/environmental legacy project will be
- Started planning a “bucket list” adventure that will be 50 years in the wanting.
- Created or co-created several community-based groups to foster further social connections
- Began working on my core structural inequities to continue healing
- Began working with JaguarMoon’s new legacy group to continue to pass along my knowledge
- Got a bus pass and started riding as much as possible
What I want for the coming year:
- Walk daily
- Incorporate daily strength work
- Find a Portuguese tutor/ class and solidify my language skills
- Find a therapist to continue my mental health journey
- Deepen my community connections in ways that support friendship and equality
- Make creating art and creativity a regular part of my life
